New CO2 cleaning system boosts product yield..THE CLIENT
One of the world's biggest electronics companies and Europe's largest with over 161,000 employees in more than 60 countries. It has market leadership positions in medical diagnostic imaging and patient monitoring, television, lighting and silicon system solutions.
THE CHALLENGE
Reduce defects caused by contamination.
MC2 ACTIVITY
A complete Contamination Control Assessment was conducted througout the facility, covering all manufacturing process steps and component cleaning proceesses.
FINDINGS
The component aqueous cleaning process caused rust to form on the parts requiring a complete overhaul of the cleaning process.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replacement of the aqueous ultrasonic cleaning process with CO2 "snow" cleaning was recommended.
RESULTS
Extensive tests comparing the CO2 cleaning process with the aqueous cleaning method were conducted. The CO2 cleaning results showed it to be superior. MC2 assisted in the design/build phase of the automated robotic CO2 cleaning system which completely replaced the aqueous ultrasonic system. Contamination related defects were almost eliminated, boosting real thru-put yield, increasing cost savings, and decreasing operator involvement.
